VELTRUSY Manor

History

The history of Veltrusy manor is connected with the noble house of Chotek. The manor was built in the first half of the 18th century by Václav Antonín Chotek. The second owner extended and rebuilt it into rococo style. In that shape, there was an exposition and market of Czech journeymen established in 1754, where all producers exhibited their products. Empress Maria Theresia visited the market and in her honour, Rudolf Chotek built a chamber on the first floor.

Rudolf Chotek also made various adaptations, including the manor and the neighbouring park. The local English park is one of the earliest ones in Europe. A fallow-deer park and a decorative farmhouse were established there, where the nobility could watch, how ordinary people lived and worked.
